Bolstered by the state of Kansas' recent measure removing the requirement for the teaching of evolution in public schools, yesterday afternoon the Mississippi legislature passed a bill eliminating fractions and decimal points from the mathematics curriculum of all public secondary schools in the state.

So first of all, Kansas has stopped teaching evolution? What, are they teaching the Adam and Eve theory of creation again? I think everyone needs to have their share of Homo Habili (is that the plural form) in seventh grade. Also, fractions should be eliminated but definitely not decimals. Oh wait, Americans don't like decimals...that's a metric thing. I hated fractions and never completely learned how to do them all the way through my mathematical schooling which went to grade 12. I still had a good mark in Math. Fractions are unnecessary.
It's kind of sad that they have to limit their curriculum requirements just to get their standards back up. The kind of place we live in. Wonderful!
But to cut out homo habilis, homo erectus and homo sapiens from the system...that's just downright...stupid?
