First day of fake coverage of New York Comicron 2011 is up on the internet.

Also, in related news, listentome.net has been updated.

Incidentally, LAUREN, Kris told me to e-mail him and that he'd very kindly link to the article, but I haven't bothered him yet because I figure I'll wait until at least the second part is up in which I actually went to the con and my meeting with him will also be featured. SO I WILL CONTACT HIM THEN.

Australia Day.

Hit a Koala in celebration, they're filled with Vegemite flavored candy. Afterwards, sit back and soak in the culture with a marathon of Paul Hogan and Yahoo Serious films. You could also watch Mad Max but I don't think they consider Mel Gibson Australian anymore.

I get paid in smiles.

Smile Smile Smile Just gave myself a raise.

Are there anymore Cons that you plan on going to, Joe? I like these articles, usually people just post pictures of their free shit and meeting Someguy from Something, it's nice to get the whole experience.

It certainly is the whole experience! Every last mundane step!!!

I'm glad you find it enjoyable as I actually do find writing about events like this to be the most entertaining thing for me to do for LTM, period. I think it's funny to go to things that are supposed to be a bit of a big deal and then show how a good amount of them are pretty dull and require lots of waiting in lines and wandering around listlessly. I do still genuinely think the E3 2006 coverage is one of the funniest things I've ever written (which is a biggish deal for me because I often look back on a lot of what I've written and just think it's lame now).

I don't generally go out of my way to go to cons; it's more if my geeky friends suggest it and I figure why the hell not, so as of right now I don't have any more stuff like that planned. However, there are still gonna be two more (shorter) parts of this one eventually. And if I'm in the NY area when this event rolls around this year and can still get in for cheap, yeah, probably, sure.

ALSO, I did start writing this thing for my blog I never update, which was basically me cataloging my trips into NYC by writing about them in much the same way as this. I did it in a slightly more somber and less jokey fashion because I was intending to have at least SOMETHING in the way of sort of "serious" writing out there, but the basic idea is that I personally - even though I grew up in and have lived near NYC most of my life - have always found NYC overwhelming and difficult to find places where I feel comfortable and want to hang out in loads, so I was trying to take trips into the city just to go to bars and cafes and so forth to see if I could manage to really like anything. I took notes on my trips in a similar, obsessive compulsive fashion as I did for comic con, less about NYC's COOL LOOK and FAST-PACED WHIZ-BANG SOCIETY (because I've seen it all enough that I'm pretty much over it) and more about the dirtiness and the loneliness and the funny and angry things I overhear people say in waiting rooms and on the streets.

I only really did two of these trips before work ate up all my time though and I kind of wrote off the write-ups as maybe not being the best use of my time when there's so much else I want to get done, but maybe I shouldn't be so dismissive of them!!?? If it sounds even mildly interesting to you, maybe I should try to finish them up. I did write a big Truffle Shuffle of the first one already anyway.

Also, I don't get paid for word-thinkin' either... I kind of get paid for word-'splainin' though. Surely there's something to be said for that...(?)
